Thirty-five years in business is something worth celebrating. 35 Years of Teltrac built on people and purpose is a testament to enduring success and dedication.
In New Zealand, where economic cycles, technology shifts and changing customer expectations continually reshape industries, longevity is never guaranteed. While many businesses succeed for a few years, far fewer are still growing and evolving after three and a half decades. Government business data shows that only around 44% of New Zealand small businesses are still operating after ten years. (Business.govt.nz)
That makes 35 years a remarkable milestone.
This month, we proudly celebrates 35 years of serving customers across New Zealand. Since beginning operations in 1991 with a team of 15 people in Christchurch, Teltrac has grown into one of New Zealand’s leading privately owned technology integration and infrastructure businesses, with more than 100 staff and seven branches nationwide.
But anniversaries are not only about looking back.
They are also an opportunity to reflect on what matters most moving forward.
Last month, our teams from all seven branches came together for a 2.5-day national summit focused on strengthening teamwork, refining our value proposition and listening to customer feedback. It was an energising and inspiring event.
In many ways, the summit reflected exactly why Teltrac has remained successful for 35 years: we never stop learning, improving and adapting. The story of 35 Years of Teltrac built on people and purpose is truly about this ongoing dedication to improvement.
Technology has changed dramatically since 1991. Back then, structured cabling and telecommunications looked very different to Teltrac’s current services of integrating audiovisual systems, security technology, automation, wireless infrastructure and smart buildings. Through every wave of technological change, Teltrac has continued to evolve while staying true to a simple philosophy — understanding customer needs and delivering reliable, high-quality solutions through skilled people.
At this year’s summit, one theme stood out above all others: people remain at the centre of everything we do.
We spent time strengthening collaboration across branches, sharing expertise between teams and discussing how we can continue delivering exceptional customer experiences in every region of New Zealand. We also listened to customer insights and feedback, because after 35 years we know that the best businesses never assume they have all the answers. Clearly, 35 Years of Teltrac built on people and purpose illustrates the importance of listening and teamwork for long-term success.
The willingness to listen, learn and improve is one of the reasons businesses endure.
Another reason is culture.
As companies grow, maintaining a strong culture across multiple locations becomes increasingly important. Bringing our technical leaders and support staff together from across the country reminded us how valuable face-to-face connection still is. The summit gave our people the chance to strengthen relationships, align around shared goals and reinforce the standards and values that define Teltrac.
For a nationwide business, that alignment matters.
Customers expect consistency, professionalism and expertise regardless of which branch or technician they work with. Our focus during the summit was ensuring we continue delivering that experience while also preparing for the future of digital infrastructure and integrated technology solutions in New Zealand.
Thirty-five years in business also creates perspective.
We have operated through recessions, market shifts, rapid technological disruption and changing customer expectations. We have seen industries transform and new technologies emerge that would have seemed unimaginable when Teltrac first opened its doors in 1991.
Yet one thing has remained constant: strong businesses are built by strong teams. Notably, 35 Years of Teltrac built on people and purpose shows how teamwork and dedication create lasting results.
That is why investing in our people remains one of our highest priorities. Continuous training, professional development, collaboration and knowledge-sharing are essential in an industry where technology evolves rapidly. Our recent summit reinforced that commitment and reminded us that our greatest strength is the experience, skill and dedication of our people across New Zealand.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue celebrating this milestone with our technical teams across all seven branches.
These celebrations are about recognising the people who make Teltrac what it is today — the technicians, project managers, service coordinators, regional managers. We have long-serving staff members who have contributed to our journey over the years, some for over 20 years. Many of our people have built long careers with Teltrac, and their expertise and commitment have helped shape the reputation we are proud of today.
Of course, no business reaches 35 years without the trust of its customers and partners.
We are incredibly grateful to the organisations, suppliers and clients who have worked alongside us throughout the years. Your trust has enabled us to grow, innovate and continue investing in the future.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are excited about what comes next.
The technology landscape will continue to evolve, customer expectations will continue to rise and new opportunities will continue to emerge. But after 35 years, one thing is clear: businesses that stay connected to their people, their customers and their purpose are the ones that stand the test of time.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Teltrac journey so far.
Here’s to the next chapter.
